The office of the United Nation High Commissioner for Human Rights invites civil society actors to nominate an individual or an organization for the 2013 UN prize in the field of Human Rights. The prize will be awarded at a ceremony at the UN headquarters in New York on December 10th 2013 for the annual commemoration of Human Rights Day.
Established in 1966, this honorary prize is awarded every five years to individuals and organizations in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the field of Human Rights. It is also an opportunity to send a clear message to human rights defenders around the world, and let them know that the international community is grateful for their tireless efforts.
Previous recipients include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, and former Urgent Action Fund board chair Sunila Abeyesekera.
