The Urgent Action Fund community warmly welcomes Soo K. Uhm to our New York City office. Soo joins as Urgent Action Fund’s inaugural Sr. Leadership Giving Officer and will work closely with the community of philanthropists dedicated to achieving equality and justice for women, girls and transgender people.
Soo’s understanding of feminism is integrally tied to her experiences growing up as one of five daughters in a traditional immigrant family in a small town in Maryland. As a young woman, she rebelled against that environment and went on to design her own major in women’s studies at St. Mary’s College, Maryland. Soon after graduation, Soo moved to Korea and among other positions, worked as a refugee coordinator with a local NGO in conjunction with the UNHCR. She received a master’s degree in international development from The Graduate School of International Studies, Ewha Women’s University.
Soo has taught English as a second language, facilitated leadership programs for middle school students in Washington D.C. and has a decade of experience advising clients in the finance sector in New York. In additional to building the community of supporters giving for women’s rights at Urgent Action Fund, Soo studies acupuncture part-time at the Tri-State College of Acupuncture in the hopes of helping individuals find greater tranquility in mind and body. Soo is a proud sister to her amazing siblings and a proud daughter to one of the toughest and bravest moms around, as well to a dad that provided her the spirit of activism.
Please join us in welcoming Soo to the team. She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
