QUICK RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR DONATION

Urgent Action Fund (UAF) provides small grants to support timely strategic interventions that take advantage of the opportunities which promote the advancement of human rights of women, anywhere in the world. Such opportunities arise when an unexpected event occurs-positively or negatively-creating a situation in which quick response may have a significant impact.

The activities supported by the Urgent Action Fund vary widely, but the overall goal remains the advancement of human rights mujeres.Urgent Action Fund is committed to the principle of nonviolence. UAF does not fund individuals or groups that support or promote violence.

UAF responds to all requests within 72 hours.

UAF can not make donations to humanitarian efforts or for activities of general programs or long-term projects, either for individual participation in conferences.

URGENT ACTION FUND DONATIONS MADE IN THREE CATEGORIES: 
  • Response to armed conflict, the escalation of violence or politically unstable situations
  • Legal or legislative actions that potentially devote a precedent, or to help protect one that has already been consecrated.
  • Protection and safety of women defending the rights of women.

Regardless of the category to which they belong, grant proposals must meet the following criteria:

STRATEGIC – the action will relate to a predetermined plan, to promote structural change to achieve the advancement of human rights of women.

UNEXPECTED AND URGENT – the situation or opportunity must be unforeseen and action must be developed quickly to be effective.

SUSTAINABLE – the group will be able to carry out the proposed action can effectively and ensure financing for future work on its strategy.

HAVE SUPPORT – the group would support others involved in the defense of human rights of women both locally and globally or related fields.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A GRANT

Urgent Action Fund provides supplemental funds to groups that already have a strategy known or coalitions of groups that together provide a response to a crisis or a new opportunity.

  • Applications can be made at Urgent Action Fund directament or through persons or organizations who already know us.
  • We can respond more quickly if the request includes a recommendation from one of our directors or members of the board, another donor or a community member and advocate of human rights of women.
  • Applications are welcome in any language, but those written in languages ​​other than English or Spanish languages, require additional time for translation.
  • The information contained in a proposal be kept confidential at the request of the proponent. Proposals can be sent to Urgent Action Fund via email, fax or mail.

All proposals must include the following information:

INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATION INFORMATION
  1. Information of the person making the request (name / address / fax / email).
  2. Information from the group responsible for the donation (name / address / fax / email).
  3. Please describe the mission of the organization or the area in which his study focuses.
  4. Please provide the number of women working in the group and the respective charges (if applicable).
  5. Please provide the names and responsibilities of others involved in the intervention groups for seeking support (if applicable).
  6. Please provide the names and contact information for organizations, donors or colleagues who can provide references of their work.
  7. Please make a list of previous donors to your organization and contact information.

EXAMPLES OF DONATIONS

Response to Armed Conflict, Violence or Stepping Politically Unstable Situations:

In regions suffering increasing violence or escalation of conflict, UAF supports strategic timely intervention.

Team Women Kalinaw Mindanao (Mindanao Kalinaw Women’s Team) – Philippines

When violence broke out in the province of Sulu, caused the displacement of 27,000 persons. Women Team responded immediately Kalinaw Mindanao conflict. The organization launched a mission to raise funds and campaign in the media to focus public opinion on the violation of human rights of women in Sulu.

Legal or legislative actions that potentially set a precedent:

UAF supports timely legal or legislative actions that have the potential to influence public opinion and lead to structural and long-term gains for women.

The Voice of Difference (Voice of Difference VOD) and Vidra – Serbia and Montenegro

When the government unexpectedly knocked on Instant election two women’s organizations, Voice of Difference (Voice of Difference) and Vidra, mobilized activists in 40 municipalities to provide voter education to over 600 women. In just two weeks of work, the group used the UAF resources to organize, distribute information, and ultimately increase the participation of women in elections.

National Association of Women Litigants (National Association of Women in Law) (NAWL) – Canada

The government of Ontario, Canada proposed use religious law to settle Muslim family disputes between Canadian lasfamilias. Muslim activists around the world expressed their concern about the gender implications of a precedent like that. In response, NAWL UAF used a donation to bring international experts on Islam and feminism in Ontario to participate in a press conference and publicize the implications for women if a law was approved.

Safety and Security Defenders of Human Rights of Women:

UAF awarded funds to assist women whose lives are threatened or activities because of their activism. Funds for resources such as cell phones, drivers or security system for offices that allow activists to continue their work in safer conditions. If necessary, support the evacuation UAF activist a dangerous environment.

Latin America

A woman supporter of human rights of women received multiple death threats after reporting a slaughter of civilians.

UAF provided resources to relocate the threatened activist and install cameras in his office. Resources for cell phones to members of the organization were given and thus remain vigilant against new security situations.

Asia

Women activists were attacked by the local police while protesting the illegal sale of their land and a forest reserve. A UAF donation helped provide safe shelter and transportation to activists.
